Unique Stays in New England

About the area

New England does small and characterful better than anywhere: weathered shingles, old barns, harbor towns and mountain roads that turn red and gold every October. The homes on this page lean into that.

On the tip of Cape Cod, a hideaway and a seaside cottage put you within walking distance of Provincetown's galleries, beaches and Commercial Street. In Kennebunkport, The Old Cape Barn sits in one of Maine's classic coastal towns. Inland, Super Nova in Campton is a mountain retreat at the edge of New Hampshire's White Mountains.

Why stay here

  • Coast and mountains. Choose between Cape Cod beaches, the Maine coast and the White Mountains.

Best time to visit

Summer is peak season on the coast. Late September and October bring foliage, especially in the White Mountains, with calmer beach towns. Winter suits the mountains and skiing, and spring is quiet and good value everywhere.

Getting there

Boston Logan is the main airport for all three areas. Provincetown is roughly two and a half hours from Boston by car, with summer ferries from Boston as well. Kennebunkport is about an hour and a half north of Boston, and Campton is roughly two hours north via I-93.

Things to do nearby

  • Provincetown: Race Point and Herring Cove beaches, galleries and whale watching.
  • Kennebunkport: Dock Square, Goose Rocks Beach and lobster shacks.
  • White Mountains: the Kancamagus Highway, Franconia Notch and Waterville Valley.
