The Step
A design-forward A-frame cabin with direct booking on a working farm in Montgomery, NY (Hudson Valley)
Set quietly on a working farm just outside Montgomery, The Step is the first expression of 127 Cabin Company’s design language—small, restrained, and intentionally light in how it meets the land. Designed as a compact A-frame on underused farmland, it was built to sit gently within its surroundings rather than dominate them.
The architecture is minimal and precise. Clean lines, natural materials, and a small footprint allow the landscape to stay central. Open fields stretch outward, a gentle stream runs nearby, and wildlife and farm animals move through the land in quiet, everyday rhythms that shape the atmosphere around the cabin.
Inside, the same restraint continues. Warm wood tones, simple finishes, and an uncluttered layout create a calm interior designed for slowing down. Nothing is excessive—everything supports stillness, long pauses, and time that moves differently.
The Step sits within a small farm compound alongside The Trek, but remains the more introspective of the two—closer to its original, experimental intent. It feels slightly more tucked into the landscape, where the presence of nature is constant and unfiltered.
And while it feels removed, it isn’t remote. Montgomery and the wider Hudson Valley are nearby, but the experience often makes leaving feel unnecessary.
The Locèlle Take
The Step is defined by lightness—of structure, of intention, and of presence. It’s architecture that doesn’t compete with its environment, but quietly frames it, allowing land, weather, and wildlife to lead the experience.
