Yamagoya Cabin feels like a gentle departure from the familiar. Tucked into a private forest in the Catskills, it draws from Japanese ryokan traditions and Japandi restraint, creating a stay rooted in calm, ritual, and intention—without sacrificing comfort.

Let the landscape slow you down. Morning light filters through the trees. Mountain views frame the deck. Evenings unfold around the firepit, stars overhead, the forest settling in around you. This is a place for reflection, unhurried meals, and long pauses that feel earned.

About the space

Inside, the cabin balances minimalism with warmth. A traditional tatami room invites a different rhythm—shikibutons, natural textures, and a quiet sense of ceremony. Elsewhere, Western comforts take shape through thoughtful design: a fireplace-anchored living space, a fully equipped kitchen for cooking and baking, and two serene bedrooms with low-profile furnishings and subtle Japanese influences.

Small details are layered throughout, meant to be discovered slowly rather than announced. A shishi-odoshi fountain marks time softly. Chochin lanterns glow at dusk. An emakake wishing tradition adds a moment of pause and intention—each element reinforcing the cabin’s quiet, immersive character.

Step outside to a spacious deck designed for forest bathing, take in mountain views, or gather around the firepit as night settles in. Though deeply secluded, the cabin sits just minutes from Roxbury’s outdoor adventures, offering easy access to hiking and exploration when you’re ready to re-engage.

Meet Your Hosts

Christie and Seikai

We’re Christie and Seikai—a multicultural family of three with a love for travel, adventure, and all things outdoors. After 13 years in NYC, we traded the city for the Southwest to be closer to mountains, nature, and wide-open skies. Yamagoya Cabin is our passion project: designed by us, built with care, and filled with little touches of Japanese tradition and Japandi style. We’ve been hosting for just over a year, and there’s nothing we love more than welcoming guests into our home and sharing a piece of our culture. Whether it’s hiking nearby trails, watching the stars from the firepit, or simply breathing in the forest air, we hope your stay is a chance to pause, unplug, and soak in the beauty of the Catskills. It’s the kind of quiet, mindful escape we chase when we travel—and we can’t wait for you to experience it too.
