Lover's Edge
Beneath a peak of restored wood, glass doors open onto a deck suspended above the Delaware State Forest. Lover's Edge is an A-frame at the very edge of the woods, built for evenings by the wood stove and nights in the hot tub with the trees close on every side.
Milena and Isaac Cohen uncovered its original wood beneath plaster and paint, and what they found feels like a hideaway you were lucky to discover.
The Space
Inside, the A-frame rises like a cathedral of wood. Honey-toned tongue-and-groove climbs both slopes of the roof to meet at the peak, and at the gable end a full wall of windows fills the triangle with forest and sky. Sanded back to its grain, the wood glows amber in the afternoon. Across three stories, two bedrooms and three bathrooms sleep six.
Light moves through the house all day. French doors on the main floor pour sun across restored plank floors, catching a deep teal sofa, mustard throws, and a marble-topped dining table set beneath the rafters. In the kitchen, emerald cabinetry brings the color of the forest indoors. When the light fades, two original wood-burning stoves take over, warming the rooms they have anchored for decades.
Upstairs, the bedrooms sit inside the triangle itself, with sloped wood ceilings overhead and a single window framing the treetops. Below, the primary suite opens onto the deck, so morning arrives with the tree line already in view. The bathrooms are the house at its most indulgent: a glass-walled sauna and a tile-wrapped walk-in shower in the primary suite, and a freestanding tub set beneath the slope of the roof.
Outside, the deck wraps the house in a wide U, about 20 feet above the ground. Strung with lights at dusk, it gathers a hot tub, a lounge, and a grill along its edge, while a fire pit on the ground below sits among the pines.
Who It's For
Couples who want the forest to themselves. A primary suite with its own sauna, a hot tub under the trees, and a deck with nothing between it and the woods make Lover's Edge a natural choice for two.
Friends sharing a long weekend. Two bedrooms, three baths, and a deck with room to spread out give a small group space to be together and apart.
Guests who travel for the design. Teal velvet against honeyed pine, emerald cabinetry, and a wall of gable windows make this an A-frame worth studying as much as staying in.
Why Locèlle Loves It
- A house uncovered, not redesigned. The Cohens found its character beneath the surface, and gave it back.
- Wood that tells the house's age. Sanded tongue-and-groove walls and repaired original floors bring a warmth no new material could.
- A deck that lives at the edge. Wrapping the house in a wide U, it turns the forest into the house's largest room.
- A gable full of sky. The wall of windows at the peak makes the main room as much about light as about wood.
- A bath worth staying in for. A glass-walled sauna and a tile-wrapped walk-in shower make the primary suite a retreat within the retreat.
- Fire, two ways. Wood-burning stoves inside and a fire pit outside give every season its own reason to gather.
- Book Direct. Locèlle introduces you directly to the hosts, so you can book with them without added platform fees.
Where the A-frame meets the forest
Lover's Edge is a house for being close to the trees without giving up comfort. Days move between the deck and the stoves, and the forest is present in every room.
