Should You Work with Influencers to Drive Direct Bookings? A Guide for Owners

Influencer stays get pitched to almost every distinctive property owner sooner or later: a free night in exchange for a post. Some of these partnerships genuinely move the needle on direct bookings. Many don't. Knowing the difference before you say yes can save you a lot of comped nights with nothing to show for them.
When Influencer Marketing Actually Works
The creator's audience already travels the way your guests do. A design or architecture-focused creator with an engaged, travel-curious following will send far more qualified traffic than a broad lifestyle account with a large but untargeted audience.
The content has a long shelf life. A single Reel or story disappears in a day. A well-shot piece of content that you can repost, embed on your property page, or reuse in future marketing earns its value many times over.
There's a clear call to action. If the goal is direct bookings, the post needs to link somewhere guests can actually book without fees — not just tag your handle and hope people find their way to an OTA search.
When It's Not Worth It
Follower count alone is a poor predictor of booking value. A creator with a large but disengaged audience, or one whose content style doesn't match your property's aesthetic, often produces plenty of likes and zero inquiries. Be wary of pitches that ask for multiple comped nights, additional guests, or exclusivity with no clear content deliverable or usage rights attached.
A Simple Framework Before You Say Yes
- Ask to see engagement rates, not just follower counts
- Confirm what content you'll receive and whether you can reuse it
- Require a direct link to your booking page in the post or bio, not just a tag
- Set expectations for timing — content posted during your low season won't drive the bookings you need most
- Treat it as a trade with real value on both sides, not a favor
Curated Platforms Can Do Some of This Work for You
Locèlle regularly features hosts and their homes through original photography and editorial storytelling on the Journal — content produced by working with professional architectural photographers who understand how to shoot a design-forward home for both guests and search visibility. For owners who'd rather not manage influencer relationships one pitch at a time, being part of a platform that already tells your home's story to a design-conscious audience can accomplish the same goal with far less back-and-forth.
Let Your Home's Story Do the Work
If you'd rather have your property's design and story featured to guests who are already searching for exactly that, explore how hosting with Locèlle works, see examples in the current collection, and submit your property for consideration.
